Official Rules

These Official Rules govern the skill-based prize competitions offered on Square Off. They explain how to enter for free, who can take part, the prizes available, and how winners are decided. They form part of, and should be read with, our Terms of Service.

No purchase necessary to enter or win. Square Off competitions are free to enter. Making any payment is neither required nor possible — there is nothing to buy and no money changes hands to play. By entering a competition you agree to these Official Rules and to our Terms of Service.

The competitions are operated by Square Off (“we”, “us”, “our”), the operator of the service at squareoff.gg. We are formalizing our corporate registration and will publish our registered entity details once available. Until then you can reach us at contact@squareoff.gg.

2. Who can enter

To enter and be eligible to receive a prize, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction if higher;
  • Be physically located in a jurisdiction where skill-based prize competitions are lawful and where we offer the service (we apply location checks — see our Terms for the current list of available and excluded U.S. states);
  • Hold only one account — one entry per person, per competition; and
  • Not be an employee, contractor, or immediate family or household member of Square Off, where excluding such persons is required by applicable law.

Void where prohibited or restricted. These competitions are void in any jurisdiction where they are prohibited or would require a registration, bond, or license we do not hold. You are responsible for knowing and complying with the laws that apply to you.

3. How to enter (free entry)

Entry is obtained by completing a short rewarded-ad view before a match begins. Advertisers pay us to show you the ad, and that revenue funds the prizes — you never pay us anything. Ad completion is verified on our servers; skipping, muting, blocking, automating, or otherwise faking the ad-view disqualifies the entry attempt. Once the ad is verified, you are entered into the match.

We may limit how many rewarded entries you can earn per day or per period across all game modes, including practice games, to keep play fair and prevent abuse. Current daily limits are shown in-product and may change.

4. Prizes

The prize for every competition is fixed and shown before you enter. As of the “Last updated” date above:

  • Chess (1v1): the winner is credited $0.02 to their reward balance.
  • Drop Four (best-of-three series): the series winner is credited $0.05.
  • Word Duel (best-of-three series): the series winner is credited $0.05.
  • Group Duel (best-of-three series): the series winner is credited $0.05.
  • vs-Computer chess practice: a flat $0.01 participation credit, paid whether you win or lose, up to the daily practice limit.

Forfeited or abandoned matches: the full prize for a best-of-three series (Drop Four, Word Duel, Group Duel) reflects a completed match. If your opponent forfeits, disconnects, or abandons the match before it is played out, the remaining player is credited a reduced $0.01 rather than the full series prize. Single-game matches (Chess) are unaffected and pay the full prize on a forfeit.

Prizes are credited to your in-Platform reward balance and may be redeemed as a digital gift card once your balance reaches the cash-out minimum — see our Gift-Card Terms. Prize amounts and game line-up may change at any time; the amount shown when you enter is the amount that applies to that match. We do not guarantee that you will win any particular match or earn any particular amount.

5. How winners are decided

Outcomes are determined solely by the players’ decisions and skill — not by a random-number generator, a house edge, or luck. We never play against you. Our servers are authoritative for game state and enforce the rules of each game; clients do not self-report results. The winner of a competition is the player the server determines to have won under the rules of that game. If you disconnect, abandon, time out, or fail to complete a match, you may forfeit it in accordance with the in-game rules.

6. General conditions

  • We may void any entry, match result, or prize where ad verification fails, where we reasonably suspect the ad was not genuinely viewed, or where these Official Rules or our Terms are breached.
  • Prohibited conduct — including multi-accounting, collusion, match-fixing or intentionally losing to move prize value, bots, automation, and circumventing location or ad checks — is grounds to disqualify entries, withhold or reverse prize credits, and suspend or close accounts.   • We may modify, suspend, or cancel a competition if it cannot be run as planned — for example because of a technical malfunction, fraud, or another cause beyond our reasonable control. Because no entry fee is charged, a re-entry opportunity or removal of the affected match is your sole and exclusive remedy.

7. Taxes

You are solely responsible for any taxes that apply to prizes you earn. Where required, we may collect tax information and report prize payouts above certain thresholds — see our Tax & Prize Reporting page.

8. Disputes

If you believe a competition was settled incorrectly, contact us within 30 days at contact@squareoff.gg. Our server-side game logs are the primary basis for resolving disputes, and our reasonable determination is final except where the law provides otherwise. Complaints are handled under our Complaints Policy.

9. Changes

We may update these Official Rules from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Your continued participation after changes take effect means you accept the updated rules.
